Reds on the Green is a programme of monthly sessions exploring the radical history of Clerkenwell. The first session of the autumn season is ‘That Devil Wilkes’ exploring the colourful history of local character, John Wilkes.

Taking place at the Marx Memorial Library on Thu 12th Sept 6.30-8pm, the evening will see Dr Robin Eagles – author of ‘Champion of English Freedom, the Life of John Wilkes’ – giving a potted biography of John Wilkes, eighteenth century radical journalist, politician and campaigner for free speech and his ties to Clerkenwell Green.

There will be dramatic readings of Wilkes’ speeches from actor Michael Elwyn, and a display from the archives at the Marx Memorial Library.

This event is part of the Reds on the Green Programme in partnership with Islington Heritage.

FREE, no booking required. All welcome!
