EC1 Echo launches free workshops for future local contributors

EC1 Echo is looking for volunteers (18+) to help us develop our website and strengthen our local community coverage.

We’re organising our first FREE practical journalism workshop, this month, to introduce you to the skills of local reporting. We will show you how to find, develop and write interesting stories about the people, places and issues that matter to our neighbourhoods.

To participate in the workshops, no previous journalism experience is needed! What matters is a genuine interest in writing, good grammar and an interest in Clerkenwell and its surrounding areas.

The aim is to give you the confidence and basic skills to start identifying, researching and writing local stories for EC1 Echo and become a contributor on a regular basis.

Please note that the workshops form a two-session programme, so participants should be available to attend both dates: Thursday, 26th November and Thursday, 3rd December 2026 from 10am until 1pm at The Peel in Clerkenwell.

The registration deadline is Sunday, 22nd November 2026 through this form.

What will you learn?

Across two sessions you will learn how to identify interesting local stories, spot newsworthy issues, and find the right angle to approach a story.

You will develop practical interviewing skills, learn how to prepare for and conduct interviews, ask the right questions and gather useful information. You will learn about the fundamentals of news writing, focusing on how to produce clear, accurate and engaging articles.

The workshop will also include an introduction to media law and the legal responsibilities journalists need to consider when reporting and publishing stories.

At EC1 Echo, we are part of this community too. We live and work alongside the people, businesses and organisations that make the area special. We may have different roles and responsibilities, but we share the same streets and an interest in what happens here.

We believe developing EC1 Echo is a collective effort. We want local people to help shape the website’s future, and play an active role.
