This year’s series of free events in Finsbury is bigger and more exciting than ever…

Islington Heritage’s Finsbury Winter Warmers programme continues with some really great events!
The full programme is here. Please note, if an event is marked ‘drop in, no need to book’ you do not need to book a place via Eventbrite. The information is just included there for more detail.
Highlights next week include the Walking Football sessions every Monday, 10am, at Finsbury Leisure Centre. Come along for a friendly, slow-paced match of walking football, and enjoy a hot cup of tea and a chat at nearby Islington Museum afterwards.
On Monday 27th January, 6.30-7.30pm, at Finsbury Library, 245 St John Street, EC1V 4NB, there is an open evening to learn more about volunteering to uncover Clerkenwell’s stories. Hear from local volunteers conducting archive research (utilising maps like the one pictured above) and oral history interviews. Share your local stories and find out how to volunteer with Islington Heritage.
There’s another opportunity to learn more about local history by taking part in a history audio tour of St James Church Clerkenwell. This is happening on Tuesday 28th January, 10.30am-12pm, at St James Clerkenwell, Sekforde Street, EC1R 0EA. Learn about the iconic and historic church of Saint James. You need to bring a smartphone or tablet, with headphones preferably. Assistance is available.
On Saturday 1st February, 2.30-4pm, you can experience ‘Magic Lantern Winter Wonders’ as masters of the Magic Lantern, Jeremy and Carolyn Brooker, present exploding volcanoes, ghostly apparitions, dancing pigs and more in this family-friendly show that goes back to the Victorian era. If you’ve never seen a bona fide Victorian Magic Lantern before, you are in for a treat! This is on at Islington Museum, below-ground entrance, 245 St John Street, EC1V 4NB.
All of the above events are FREE, drop in (so no need to book!) and refreshments are provided.
