Islington Heritage’s Finsbury Winter Warmers programme continues this week, including these two amazing events, both on at Islington Museum.

First up, on Thursday 20th February, 6-7pm, find out how Clerkenwell became the gin capital of the world and nearly brought London to its knees. Victor Keegan, author of ‘Vic Keegan’s Lost London’, asks how this tiny part of London cornered the gin trade. Was it Clerkenwell’s famous spring waters or international politics?

Then, on Saturday 22nd February, 2-4pm, enjoy a performance of classic songs and new stories by Jazz vocalist Vimala Rowe and pianist/composer Charlie Flint. Listen to Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and Sarah Vaughan, intertwined with Vimala’s own story of adoption and hear how new music and languages brought her love and joy.

Both events are drop in, so no need to book. Light refreshments will be provided.

Islington Museum, Below-ground entrance, 245 St John Street, EC1V 4NB.
