Charity forum+ launched the programme for Camden & Islington LGBT History Month 2026 with a special celebration event at venue Ester in Camden Market on the evening of Wednesday 28th January.

The first national LGBT History Month took place in 2005, and the campaign was created by educational charity Schools OUT following the repeal of Section 28. Each February events take place across the UK and there is a bumper programme to enjoy in Islington!

forum+ (Camden and Islington LGBT Charity) has curated a fantastic programme of activities and events celebrating the incredible history and achievements of the LGBT community. Everyone is invited to participate in the programme for Camden & Islington LGBT History Month 2026, and to explore LGBT history through craft workshops, discussions, exhibitions, film screenings, guided walks, performances, talks and more!

Camden and Islington have long been known as inclusive places to live, special places where different communities and cultures achieve together. LGBT History Month is a wonderful opportunity to connect people in celebration of what makes Camden and Islington so great!

Camden & Islington LGBT History Month is not only a celebration of our culture but also an important opportunity to champion inclusion and equality for LGBT people. Let’s educate and inspire everyone with the rich history of LGBT communities.

At a lonely time of the year for many these vital community engagements help to reduce social isolation and build social connections. We hope that you’ll join with us throughout February. Happy LGBT History Month!” Tessa Havers-Strong, forum+ Director

Islington’s proud LGBT history is brought to life in a collection of diverse engagements, designed to educate, entertain and inspire. On Sunday 1st February the festivities get off to a super start with 50+ Years of Islington LGBT History Guided Walk (from Angel Station) and a fantastic finale awaits on Saturday 28th with a Sassify Zine Workshop!

On Monday 2nd February hear a fascinating talk at Islington Museum on Islington’s Pride Talk: One Small Borough’s Big Impact on British LGBT+ History and on Thursday 12th February visit St Luke’s Community Centre for a workshop on Polari, the Secret Queer Language! There is going to be so much to enjoy across Islington this February with most LGBT History Month events free to join, and many are also open to allies who are interested in learning about LGBT history.
