A chance to see inside this wonderful building, and catch the new exhibition ‘Zaha Hadid: Paper Museums’
Zaha Hadid Foundation (ZHF) is partnering with Open House on Saturday 21 September 2024 to open their Grade II listed building to the public from 12-4pm.
Visitors will be able to explore parts of this former Victorian primary school, which was also once the HQ of Zaha Hadid Architects and is now home to the Zaha Hadid Foundation. The new exhibition Zaha Hadid: Paper Museums will be open, which features paper relief models of important museum projects designed by Zaha Hadid Architects.
Entry is free and there will be drop-in curator talks in addition to model-making workshops. Everyone is welcome!

Zaha Hadid: Paper Museums is the first exhibition to showcase paper reliefs from its collection and their significance to Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA). Central to the exhibition are the techniques of cutting and folding in Hadid’s paper reliefs, which lend themselves to her use of interlocking spaces, patterns and flowing forms in museums. Highlights include highly abstract paper reliefs for her museum design of the Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati, USA, as well as a series giving a view of the building from the street level entrance and through stairways and gallery spaces, evidencing her concept of the ‘urban carpet’.
Catherine Howe, Curator (ZHF), said: “Paper Museums reveals the impressive creativity of Zaha Hadid Architects when they developed their art museums. Their ground-breaking use of paper reliefs was particularly suited to the design of Hadid’s innovative and engaging exhibition spaces, but the reliefs can also be seen as works of art in their own right.”
Jane Pavitt, Head of Research and Learning (ZHF), said: “Paper Museums shines a spotlight on a form of architectural model making that is both beautiful and unusual. It’s a special type of object in our collections, which we wanted to draw attention to. We hope the exhibition inspires and excites people to think about Zaha’s work in new ways.’
The exhibition opens to the public on the 19th of September 2024.
