Mould has become a growing issue in London homes, with significant impacts on residents’ health and social lives. A recent study reveals that 28% of people living in London are allergic to mould, triggering symptoms that have led many to take drastic measures. In fact, 62% of residents regularly clean mould from their homes to avoid allergy flare-ups while waiting for their landlords to address the problem.

  • 28% of London residents report being allergic to mould.
  • 62% of Londoners are regularly cleaning mould from their homes to prevent allergy flare-ups while waiting for their landlords to resolve the issue.
  • Mould in homes is causing 42% of Londoners to become antisocial, as they can’t invite friends and family over due to mould covering their living room.
  • 11% of people in London report experiencing breathing difficulties and requiring hospitalisation due to mould in their homes.
  • 28% of Londoners purchase house plants to help with mould allergies.

The presence of mould has also taken a toll on social interactions, with 42% of Londoners avoiding hosting friends and family because their living spaces are overrun by mould. Alarmingly, 11% of residents have reported severe breathing difficulties that required hospitalisation due to mould exposure in their homes.

Eliminating dampness and mould in your home is crucial, as they can produce allergens, irritants, mould spores, and other toxins that increase the risk of health problems. Mould exposure can trigger severe respiratory issues for those allergic, such as asthma attacks, chronic sinus infections, and other allergic reactions.

Mould not only poses a serious health risk but also affects the quality of life for a significant portion of London’s population. With both physical and social consequences, it’s clear that immediate action is needed from landlords and local authorities to address this growing crisis before it leads to further isolation and health complications for thousands of residents.

If you are experiencing serious allergy symptoms, you should always see a health professional.
