A new study has revealed the best areas in the UK for night-time plans.

Islington is ranked third, but the City of London would have been first had it not been excluded from the top ten due to its extremely small population which would have skewed the data!

The study, by online casino Heart Bingo, gathered over 65 thousand (65,539) unique, active company details, relating to nightlife, entertainment, arts, and performing arts, grouping them by UK area, then ranking them by standardising per 100,000 residents to ensure a fair, normalised ranking.

In first place Westminster,with 971 venues per 100,000 residents. One of only two areas on the list with over 900 night-life venues per 100,000 residents, the London Borough has a total of 2,040 companies paired with a total population estimate of 209,996.

Camden ranks second on the list, with a total of 950 venues per 100,000 residents. A slightly higher business count (2,060), but a higher population count (216,943) results in the London Borough coming in second place..

The third spot on the list goes to the London Borough of Islington, with 584 venues per 100,000 residents. Islington has 1,303 registered, active nightlife-related venues paired with an estimated population of 223,024 – the largest population estimate of the top three.

With 459 venues per 100,000 residents, fourth place goes to the London Borough of Hackney. With the ONS’s population estimate sitting at 266,758 compared to the 1,225 active businesses registered with Companies house, Hackney comfortably sits in fourth place on the list

In fifth place is Brighton & Hove, seeing approximately 189 per 100,000 people. According to the ONS population estimates, Brighton & Hove has by far the largest population, at 283,870, paired with 537 active businesses – the first sub-1000 figure on the list, cementing the south-coast seaside city ranking in fifth place.

The remainder of the top ten features Lancaster in sixth, and West Suffolk ranking seventh, with 183, and 181 venues per 100,000 residents, respectively.

Derbyshire Dales is eighth on the list, with approximately 169 venues per 100,000 residents, with Liverpool following in ninth place, with approximately 167 venues per 100,000 residents.

Rounding out the list in tenth place is Stafford with approximately 161 venues per 100,000 residents.

In total, there were 65,539 unique businesses analysed throughout the entire UK.
