Just opposite St Pancras, the Crick’s free exhibition We Go Way Back invites families to move, touch and smell their way through the story of ancient DNA. Toddlers can follow the Explorer Trail, and there’s a Discovery Trail for children aged 7 and over. Along the way are a giant tooth wordsearch, a shadow puppet theatre and puzzles to solve.

The space is built for families, with playmats, games, highchairs and a buggy park. There’s a café for coffee and cake, and visitors are welcome to bring a packed lunch.

Feeling inspired by the exhibition? Children who want more can carry on at home with the DNA activities on Crick Kids, the Crick’s science website for 7 to 11 year olds to spark science curiosity through quizzes, experiments, crafts and videos.

Free. Open Wednesdays 10:00–20:00, and Thursday to Saturday 10:00–16:00. More information here.
