Check out what’s on this summer at Islington Museum & Archives

Visit Islington Archives to see collections giving insight to the borough’s spaces for women, from community groups to healthcare services.
Here are some upcoming highlights in their programming for May and June.
Archives Drop-In: Our Space Thu 28th May, 3-6pm
Join Islington Archives for our monthly drop-in on the last Thursday of each month to explore displays from our unique local history collections.
This month’s drop-in display will feature collections relating to women’s spaces across the borough, relating to the Our Space exhibition at Islington Museum.
The exhibition explores how urban environments can uniquely affect women’s feelings of safety, impact their mental health, and shape how women move in and through the world.
This drop-in collections display will feature posters, ephemera, photographs and press clippings offering insight into Islington’s spaces for women. From community groups to healthcare services, you will learn about how these spaces have provided a sanctuary for the borough’s women to gather, socialise and campaign.
Enjoy this display of unique archive material up close and at your own pace, with our archivists on hand to answer any questions.
There is no need to book a ticket – just drop-in between 3-6pm.
Textile Workshop: Islington’s Pride Thu 4th June, 2-5pm
Celebrate Pride Month with a community textile workshop at Islington Archives, taking inspiration from the borough’s LGBTQ+ heritage.
Learn to sew with Recycle & Stitch and Islington Archives, contributing to our community bunting for Pride Month. We will be sewing giant bunting inspired by the Islington’s Pride archive collection and our borough’s vibrant LGBTQ+ heritage.
You will design and create a section of the bunting, using bold imagery from the archives alongside your own creative flair! The team from Recycle & Stitch will teach sewing skills, from applique to embroidery, with all materials provided. Your work will be proudly displayed at Islington Archives throughout Pride Month.
The Islington’s Pride archive documents the history of LGBTQ+ life in the borough. The collection reflects the diversity of Islington’s LGBTQ+ community, shedding light on pioneering political campaigns, vibrant nightlife, healthcare for those affected by HIV/AIDs, and the mundanities of everyday life.
This event is part of Islington Museum & Archives Pride Month programme, sharing stories and inspiration from the Islington’s Pride archive collection. You can also explore our LGBTQ+ heritage map of Islington here.
Please book a ticket here, as spaces are limited.
We recommend this workshop for people aged 16+
