Previously in the Echo we reported on the proposed plans by Islington Council to redevelop the Finsbury Leisure Centre, and local residents’ anger at the plans.

The council plans to turn the 50-year-old site into a tower block with nearly 200 new homes and a sports centre with rooftop football pitches. However, this means getting rid of the current pitches and their replacements being significantly smaller in size.

A campaign group EC1VOICES was formed to oppose the plans. They contacted all the Islington South and Finsbury candidates standing in the election tomorrow to get their views on the proposals.

You can find the candidates’ responses in full here.

EC1VOICES are holding a community meeting on the 9th of July, 7:30pm – 8:30pm at Vibast Community Centre 167 Old St, EC1V 9NH.

Everyone is welcome to attend!
