Two new illuminated and interactive public art installations have been unveiled at Principal Place and Citypoint, two of the most recognisable buildings in the City of London. The installations are part of the annual IlluminoCity Light Festival delivered by real estate developer and operator BGRE (formerly Brookfield Properties). The festival is now in its seventh year.

Until 29 January 2027, the larger-than-life artworks will bring colour, light and interactivity to the City of London throughout the winter months, delivered in collaboration with two of the capital’s leading installation artists.

At Citypoint, multi-award-winning artist and designer Adam Nathaniel Furman presents Rimon, a sculptural work that adds a pop of colour to the busy public plaza. Characteristic of Furman’s bold, signature style, the monument’s chromatic, brightly toned hues are designed to gather and reflect the light as the days get shorter.

Named after the pomegranate, a historic symbol of an abundant winter harvest, Rimon acts a vibrant focal point for the City’s workers and visitors to meet and gather, inspired by the idea of taking part in an ancient feast. It is Furman’s newest public artwork in London following previous installations in major throughfares like Paddington, London Bridge and Croydon Colonnade.

Furman says: “Rimon arrives at Citypoint Plaza as an offering: a rich, fecund and ephemeral monument that gathers the light as the winter days shorten and the warmth begins to recede from the capital. Named after the pomegranate, an ancient symbol of an abundant harvest, the sculpture is a sensual, fruitful gift to the city.

“The work brings a touch of pageantry to the square, adding an assertive visual richness to the everyday urban environment. Through its shifting, chromatic gradients, and folded, radial geometry, Rimon creates a glowing marker of place where people can pause and partake in a shared, aesthetic feast.”

Artist James Burke presents Inner Being at Principal Place, part of IlluminoCity Light Festival by BGRE

A short walk away at Principal Place, James Burke, artist and founder of global creative studio Acrylicize, has unveiled Inner Being, a 7.5-metre-tall interactive sculpture that visualises the rhythms of the human body through light and motion. Every 15 minutes, the figure performs a gentle animated light sequence that mimics the human nervous system, a visual representation of the flow of sensory information and emotional response through the body.

Using thermal sensors and gesture recognition, Inner Being invites participation from the public, with movement and interaction sending pulses of light through the sculpture. The installation animates Burke’s other original artwork In Anticipation, that has been on display at Principal Place since 2018.

Burke says: “When I created In Anticipation for BGRE in 2018, I was interested in capturing a moment of possibility, the sense that something is about to unfold. With Inner Being, I’ve had the opportunity to revisit and evolve that idea through light, motion and interaction.

“The work reveals some of the invisible systems that shape our experience every day, from emotion and awareness to our responses to the world around us. By reimagining the sculpture as a living artwork, I hope to forge a more personal connection with visitors to Principal Place this winter.”

The installations are part of BGRE’s year-round experience strategy, offering curated, free-of-charge activations – from live performances to interactive art – in the public spaces surrounding some of the City of London’s best-known office buildings.

Saff Williams, Vice President, Experience, at BGRE, said: “Using BGRE’s public spaces to showcase art for all to enjoy, IlluminoCity encourages those passing through – whether commuting, on a lunch break or exploring the City for the first time – to stop and reflect. This year, a long-standing public favourite sculpture is re-interpreted as Inner Being, an interactive visualisation of the human body’s flows of energy, while Rimon’s vibrant hues add much-needed warmth to the area during the dark winter months.”
