St Luke’s Community History Group members have been researching the history of Exmouth Market and collecting stories from local residents of their memories of the market.
Built between 1816 and 1821 and named after Navy hero Edward Pellew, the first Viscount Exmouth, Exmouth Market has served the local community ever since.
This book is the result of research by St Luke’s Community History Group on the changes in the famous Market where supplies could always be found cheaply and which thrives today after over two hundred years.
We will be running a stall sharing our books at the Whitecross Street Party on Sunday July 13th 12-5 pm. Come & find us!
We will be launching our new book – Exmouth Market, Now & Then – on Thursday August 7th 12.30-2.30pm outside Holy Redeemer Church on Exmouth Market. A £3 to £5 donation to cover the costs of production is appreciated, but we are happy to give copies to people who are local residents and genuinely interested.
We would love to see EC1 residents at our stall to collect their copy and to share more stories!
